VicRoads Bike Education

Bike Ed has long been a focus at Swan Reach Primary School. The program, taught by a qualified teaching instructor based at our school, helps children aged 9 to 13 years develop the skills they need to ride safely and independently on roads and paths.
The program involves a mix of practical activities conducted off-road (in the school grounds) and on-road (on local roads) together with classroom activities.
The program consists of four modules:
 • getting started
 • basic bike skills
 • building skills for riding in traffic
 • riding on paths and riding on-road
Swan Reach Primary School acts as a Bike Ed hub, storing a full range of bicycles, storage trailers and education equipment available for use by surrounding schools. Students participate annually in the Bike Ed Challenge, successfully competing against other schools within the region.
